Ajax – AZ halted after heavy Liefting collision; AZ goalkeeper with knowledge

AZ goalkeeper Femke Liefting has suffered a concussion due to a collision during the match against Ajax. After the collision, Liefting lay motionless for some time. The match was then stopped.

After examination in the hospital, the 19-year-old goalkeeper was allowed to return home later in the day.

Liefting came far from her goal in the eighth minute of the match to intercept an attack from Ajax, but then things went wrong. The young goalkeeper collided hard with attacker Chasity Grant.

Players shielded the goalkeeper, who was conscious, with cloths and emergency workers quickly arrived on the field. The AZ goalkeeper was then taken to the hospital by ambulance from the De Toekomst training center. Research showed that Liefting had a concussion.

Duel stopped

According to protocol, the players of AZ and Ajax were allowed to think for thirty minutes whether they wanted to continue playing, but immediately decided to quit for good. The match was stopped at 0-0. It is not yet known when and if the match will be played.

FC Utrecht-FC Twente at NOS

The possible championship match of FC Twente, away at FC Utrecht, will be live on Sunday on NOS.nl and the NOS apps. The kick-off is at 12.15 pm. The commentary is by Frank Wielaard and Kika van Es.

If Ajax had lost to AZ, FC Twente would have been assured of the national title. On Sunday, Twente will play an away match at FC Utrecht and then the team can still become champions of the Netherlands.

Two more matches were played on Saturday: PSV defeated SC Heerenveen 5-0 and PEC Zwolle were too strong for Telstar 2-0.
