Swiss coach Marcel Koller, coach of Al-Ahly club, decided to exclude Mohamed El-Shennawy, his team’s goalkeeper, from facing Moroccan Wydad, scheduled for next Sunday evening at Cairo International Stadium in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final.
Kohler preferred to exclude El-Shennawy to give him a longer opportunity to recover from the rupture of the calf, to be ready for the return match scheduled for June 11 in Morocco.
Mohamed El-Shennawy missed the Al-Ahly and Al-Taraji match, in the second leg of the CAF Champions League semi-finals; Because of his suffering from pain in the calf muscle, he also continued to be absent from the last three Red Genie matches in the league against Enppi, Al-Tale’a and Ceramica, in implementation of the suspension penalty, after he was expelled in Al-Ahly’s last match in the Premier League.
Ali Lotfi, the Al-Ahly goalkeeper, participated in the starting line-up of the Red Genie in the Esperance and Enppi match, then he was injured by a strain in the posterior muscle, so that the rookie Mustafa Schubert participated and appeared distinguished.
Mohamed El-Shennawy starred in Al-Ahly’s goal in the last matches before the injury, whether in the first-leg match against Esperance in Rades or the Egyptian Super match against Pyramids, and confronted difficult attacks.
