Diaa El-Sayed, the former general coach of the Egyptian national team in the Portuguese team, Carlos Queiroz, revealed the secret of the latter’s visit to Egypt in the coming period, which sparked controversy over his imminent leadership of Al-Ahly, succeeding the current coach, Soares.
Several press reports indicated that Al-Ahly was about to dismiss its current coach, Ricardo Soares, at the end of the season, after losing the Egyptian League and Egypt Cup titles, and appointing another coach.
Diaa Al-Sayed said in televised statements, “Swarish wanted a full-fledged squad so that we could judge his work and the current circumstances were not suitable for his presence. And all the time, Al-Ahly is looking for a big name, and it does not have the space or luxury to think about trying something else, losing two championships, and it is required in the coming years to restore it.”
And about the possibility of Cyrus imminently taking over the training of Al-Ahly, Al-Sayed stressed, “Al-Ahly is a big club, and it has other ways of negotiating, and it will not contract in this way.. I will not speak on behalf of Queiroz, Al-Ahly is far from Quyrosh purely.”
And he added, “Queiroz is a great coach, he worked at Real Madrid and Manchester United, so he of course suits Al-Ahly,” stressing that “Queiroz’s visit to Egypt has nothing to do with Al-Ahly club, but Al-Ahly is completely far from him.”
He pointed out, “I was previously offered to Queiroz from the time the idea of working with an Emirati club, but he tends to work more with the national teams, but the changes are coming all the time, and he did not tell me the reason for his coming to Egypt.”
He stressed, “There is another Egyptian club inquiring about Queiroz with great interest, and Al-Ahly never asked me about the possibility of Queirush taking over Al-Ahly’s training, and no one contacted me.”
And he added, “What I know and the Al-Ahly club has known is a record of many very good needs for the team, Mahmoud Al-Khatib with the ball company, they are doing good needs and will compensate for many very many needs that were wrong last year .. Things will be above the excellent.”
It is noteworthy that Carlos Queiroz worked as technical director of the Egyptian national team during the period from September 2021 until last March, and succeeded in leading the Pharaohs to the semi-finals of the Arab Cup 2021, the final of the 2022 African Nations Cup, and the decisive round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers before losing on penalties to Senegal.
Under the leadership of Queiroz, Egypt played 20 matches, winning 13 of them, drawing twice and losing 5.
Then the Egyptian Federation contracted with Ihab Galal to start his mission with the national team on the 31st of May.
