Al-Khatib: We have two problems in the World Cup for clubs, but Egypt first

Mahmoud Al-Khatib, President of Al-Ahly Club, stressed that the interest of the Egyptian team is ahead of any club, noting that the team suffers from two technical problems other than the conflicting dates of the FIFA Club World Cup with the African Nations Cup.

Al-Khatib said, in statements to the “Abu Dhabi Sports” channel, on the sidelines of receiving the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Sports Creativity this morning: “Our goal is natural in the Club World Cup, which is to compete for the championship. But Egypt first.

He added: “The problem in the World Cup is not only in the two tournaments, but there are two problems, the first of which is that coach Pitso Mosimane cannot implement the idea of technical and tactical with the players present with the teams in the African nations, the players are absent from him for more than a month, and preparation will begin before the tournament. Two or three days, and that won’t be enough.”

He continued, “The second problem is the state of intense concentration and psychological, nervous and physical charging of the players in the camp during the confrontations of the African nations in which they play for the title, which carries great psychological burdens, as it is difficult for them to come from Cameroon and you can prepare them psychologically in hours to compete in another continental championship in which we compete with the title.” But we have a lot of confidence in the players and the coaching staff.”

Al-Ahly’s president concluded his statements by saying: “Ali Maaloul, the team’s player, renewed his contract with Al-Ahly, and there are negotiations with coach Pitso Mosimane, too, to renew his contract.”

Al-Ahly will participate in the Club World Cup for the seventh time in its history, in the tournament to be held in the UAE from February 3 to 12, and the African champions will open their campaign against Mexico’s Monterrey on February 5, one day before the final match of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. .
