Bordeaux has reached an agreement with Albert Riera to become its new coach, replacing David Guion who was dismissed on Saturday.
Bordeaux has the replacement for David Guion. The Girondins have reached an agreement with Albert Riera, former player of the club (2003-2005), to become their new coach. The Spaniard is currently stationed at NK Celje, leader of the Slovenian championship. The former midfielder, who played for Liverpool, Manchester City and Espanyol Barcelona, is expected on Tuesday to sign a two-year contract, plus an optional year conditional on results. He is expected to lead his first session on Wednesday.

Bordeaux will pay compensation of 250,000 euros to the Slovenian club with bonuses of up to 500,000 euros. His arrival will lead to several changes in the staff since Riera will come with two assistants.

He accumulated 16 caps (4 goals) with the Spanish selection between 2007 and 2009 before ending his career in Slovenia at Zavrc (2015-2016), then at FC Koper (2016). He also launched his career as head coach there in 2022 with Ljubljana, then Celje, after having been assistant at Galatasaray (2020-2021, then 2022). In Bordeaux, he will aim to bring the club back into Ligue 1 after its descent in 2022, and a few months after the failure of its promotion on the last day with the attack of a supporter on a Rodez player.
