France: MP Julien-Laferrière focused for cancellation of immunity request

In France, MP Herbert Julien Laferrière could lose his parliamentary immunity over his stance on varied diplomatic points, particularly these regarding Benin. The French Ministry of Justice has submitted a request to elevate his immunity, which is at the moment beneath evaluation by the Ministry of Justice’s Felony Affairs and Pardons Directorate.

Julien-Laferrière is beneath investigation by the Nationwide Monetary Prosecutor’s Workplace for suspected affect peddling and corruption. His public statements on international affairs, and significantly on Benin, are on the coronary heart of this investigation.

Julien-Laferrière’s place will probably be pushed by his contacts with lobbyist Jean-Pierre Duthion, who pays him for his intervention within the detention of Reckya Madougou in Benin.

The request to cancel the immunity, obtained on Wednesday 22 Might 2024, is at the moment being processed and can quickly be forwarded to the French Parliament for evaluation.
