A suspicious backpack triggered a police operation late Tuesday afternoon. The measures were lifted shortly after 7:30 p.m.
The police temporarily cordoned off the Federal Palace on Tuesday evening in Bern due to a suspicious object outside the building. The Federal Square and parts of the Bundesgasse were blocked.
The police were able to lift these measures shortly after 7:30 p.m. The suspicious object was a backpack, police spokeswoman Ramona Mock told the Keystone-ATS news agency. According to her, clues suggest that it is a stolen item that we got rid of.
The announcement concerning the presence of a suspicious object was made around 5:30 p.m. According to police information, people were still in the Federal Palace at that time, but they were able to leave the building. A police robot was in action in front of the building.
This incident occurred as the fall session of the Chambers began on Monday at the Federal Palace. It runs until September 30.
