(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Ye-na = Korean-American K-pop singer AleXa took the final victory in the American terrestrial broadcaster NBC’s contest program.

According to her agency GB Label, Alexa defeated prominent candidates and won the NBC ‘American Song Contest’, which was broadcast in the United States on the 10th.

The agency explained, “It is the first time that a K-pop artist has won a large-scale audition held in the United States.”

The ‘American Song Contest’, which was first aired in March of this year, is a program in which 56 contestants representing each state in the United States gather to compete for the best hit song in the United States.

In this program, which also featured many well-known singers, Alexa represented the state of Oklahoma.

As the only K-pop artist among the performers, he left a strong impression on local viewers with the contest song ‘Wonderland’ and took first place in the audience’s vote.

Alexa was the only team among 10 teams to score 700 points in the final, beating Washington’s Allen Stone and Connecticut’s Michael Bolton to win the trophy.

Alexa wept as she grabbed her face when her name was called as the winner.

Alexa said through her agency, “I wasn’t really looking forward to it, but thank you. Thanks to the many people who supported me, I got on stage until the end. I sincerely thank you for giving me a miraculous gift.”

Alexa appeared in Mnet audition ‘Produce 48’ in 2018 and made her face known.

He made his official debut in the music industry with ‘Bomb’ the following year, and as a rookie, he received attention by ranking 7th on the US Billboard’s ‘World Digital Song Sales’ chart.

After advancing to the semifinals of the ‘American Song Contest’, Alexa said in an interview with Yonhap News, “Because I’m a K-pop artist, I wanted to show the ‘special taste’ of K-pop.”
