A lawyer who represented the late Alexei Navalny and accompanied the Russian dissident’s mother last week when she appealed to authorities to hand over her son’s body to her, was arrested in Moscow today, Russian media reported.
The arrest of Vasily Dubkov was reported, according to APE-MPE, by the newspaper Novaya Gazeta Europe and the news agency SOTA.
Alexei Navalny’s spokeswoman said today that his aides have been unable to find a venue in Russia where people will be able to pay their respects to the opposition leader who died in prison this month.
In a post on the X platform, Kira Jarmis said: “Since yesterday we have been looking for a place where we can say goodbye to Alexei. We visited most private and public funeral homes, commercial venues and funeral parlors.”
“Some say that the space is occupied, some deny with the mention of the name “Navalni”. Somewhere we were told directly that funeral homes are forbidden to cooperate with us”.

THE Alexei Navalny died in a penal colony in the Russian Arctic Circle on February 16, a day before he was to be released in a prisoner swap with the US, according to the latest revelations.
In a post from prison on February 1, the Russian dissident had called on Russians across the country to express their protest against Vladimir Putin by going to the polls at the same time, at noon on March 17 – the last on the day of the presidential election vote – and to march against him.
“I like the idea of those who vote against Putin going to the polls at the same time, at noon.
