“all the necessary arrangements have been made”, says the mayor of Matam

As previously announced, except last minute changes, the first civic sanitation day (established on July 23 in Guinea) will be held tomorrow, Saturday August 06, 2022, throughout the national territory. This day is placed under the authority of the governors, prefects and mayors of the municipalities. And, it is part of the fight against insalubrity in Guinea.

In the town of Matam where a reporter from Guineematin.com visited this Friday, August 05, 2022, Mayor Ismaël Condé reassures that all arrangements have been made to make this sanitation day a success. And, “critical points” have already been identified.

“We have already set up a commission in charge of sanitation, which we call the CCTA. It is this commission that coordinates all activities related to sanitation in our municipality. We brought together the technical departments of housing, public works with the director of micro-projects, the vice-mayor in charge of sanitation and the SMEs in charge of garbage collection in the different districts of Matam in order to make this sanitation day a day of success in terms of sanitation… We have already identified all the black spots that cause enormous difficulties in terms of sanitation. At these black spots, you can see heaps of filth. Today, these blackheads are identified in 6 areas. In the zones which are in particular at the level of the big market of Madina and its surroundings, the channels of evacuation of rainwater and others are practically clogged. The zone which is located at the level of the cornice, we have identified it as being a critical zone which must benefit from concrete actions within the framework of the cleansing which will be done in the day of tomorrow. The gutters that should drain rainwater to the sea are clogged. We didn’t forget the interior of the Madina market and along the Niger road where there is also a lot of garbage. At the level of the highway, from the Madina bus station to the level of Avaria, there are piles of rubbish everywhere. So this issue of sanitation is a central issue, especially in the town of Matam where there is the largest market in the country,” said Ismaël Condé.

To facilitate this sanitation work in Matam, the mayor of the said commune says he has submitted a list of materials and equipment to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization. And, it solicits the contribution of the citizens of its geopolitical jurisdiction to succeed in the wager of healthiness.

Ismaël Condé, Mayor of Matam

“As part of the preparations for the sanitation activities, the Minister of Territorial Administration called all the mayors of the 5 municipalities and the special delegate of Kassa to a meeting. During this meeting, we were asked to submit the list of all black spots and the list of equipment needed to carry out the sanitation work. With regard to the municipality of Matam, we first asked all the district councils to provide us with the list of material needs for sanitation. And, each council filed its list. On this basis, we put together the general list of the commune of Matam at the level of the Ministry of Territorial Administration. A list that is composed in terms of needs: 24 dump trucks for garbage collection, ie one truck per district. We asked for 14 backhoes, 240 wheelbarrows (10 per district), 240 shovels, 480 rakes, 1200 boots, 1200 gloves. All to make this day tomorrow, as well as the other days, successful days in terms of sanitation… I ask all the citizens of the commune of Matam to stand up as one man for the sanitation of the commune … We have set up a team that will crisscross the entire municipality of Matam, in all neighborhoods with megaphones to inform and raise awareness until tomorrow in relation to the sanitation day this Saturday,” said Ismaël Condé.
