An Allahabad court has rejected a plea seeking a fact-finding inquiry into the Taj Mahal. The Allahabad High Court has rejected a petition seeking an inquiry into the history of the Taj Mahal and the reopening of the locked 22-room doors.
The PIL came before the court seeking the formation of a fact-finding committee to find out the real facts behind the Taj Mahal. The court noted that special studies were needed on the issue of the opening of rooms in the Taj Mahal and that the matter should be left to historians.
The court, while considering the petition, criticized the petitioner. The main criticism of the court was that the PIL should not be mocked. The court held that the request of a fact-finding committee to examine the matter did not fall within the purview of the plaintiff’s rights or the RTI Act. At this point, the court clarified that it did not agree with the arguments given by the petitioner when the previous High Court and Supreme Court judgments on religious freedom were presented. With this, the petitioner sought permission to file an amended petition.
