The plot of this thriller takes place in 2008. Barack Obama is launched in the race for the American presidency with, in his campaign team, a specialist in data and social networks who turns out to be a spy in the pay of the Russians . The scandal is about to burst, but someone must be able to confirm this story. Ex-intelligence agent, Anne (Asia Argento), who a few years earlier was in possession of a video that could explain everything, is contacted.

Very quickly things get complicated, especially when his ex-officer appears in the story, incidentally his ex-lover Charlie (Jeanne Balibar). Her voice resurfaces over the phone, alternately authoritative or sensual, fragile or solid.

Alone, also on the screen

With “Seule”, the Franco-Swiss Jérôme Dassier, whose first feature film as a director, took up the challenge of keeping the spectators in suspense with a fragile device on paper, but concrete on the canvas: throughout the film, only the actress Asia Argento appears on the screen. All the other characters she interacts with are just telephone voices. And it is not a question for her of calling for help, but of making the right decisions to save her skin.

Like Lino Ventura in “Spy get up” by Yves Boisset, released in 1982 and partly shot in Zurich, Anne (and the spectators with her) is always one step behind the plot and never knows where his choices will take him. We therefore grope our way through this suspense film whose action takes place in 2008. In fact, mini-cassette camcorders and public telephone booths find leading roles.

The great History and the great feelings get married deliciously in this feature film since the intimate could influence the universal, the love being placed above the reason of State. We believe without difficulty in this unfinished love story just as we also believe in the function of ex-agent of Asia Agento, who passes with a rare fluidity from English to Italian via French. .

Find the desire to turn

After going through a few difficult years, Asia Argento admits having regained her desire to act thanks to this genre film about the isolation and alienation it engenders. When discovering the scenario, she found similarities with her life: “At first I said to myself: ‘but I will be all alone?’ It’s difficult, there aren’t many films where an actress is all alone on the screen. I’m a very lonely person in life, I’ve loved this feeling since I was very young. (…) [Mais] I loved the script and I wanted to work with Jérôme.”

Each on their side, the director and the actress praise this mutual and “organic” trust. “Her name came quite quickly (…), but she scared me a little bit. I went to see her at her house and after a minute, I knew we were going to get along”, concludes Jérôme File.
