Alpha Tauri F1 Hiroki Tsunoda Q3 advance “Successful setup change before qualifying” / Dutch Grand Prix Qualifying[F1-Gate.com]

Claudio Balestri, Scuderia AlphaTauri’s vehicle performance chief engineer, looks back on qualifying for the 2022 F1 Dutch Grand Prix.

Scuderia AlphaTauri, who had problems with their car in FP3 on Saturday, made further set-up changes ahead of qualifying. This was successful and Yuki Tsunoda advanced to Q3 for the fourth time this season. Pierre Gasly was 11th, 0.084 seconds short of Q3.

“We weren’t happy with our performance in Friday’s free practice. We knew there was still room for improvement in the package,” said Balestri.

“Therefore we decided to stay up all night on Friday and Saturday to change the set-up. The goal was to improve tire management and overall performance. We were struggling especially in the corners, sliding in the fast corners and sectors. 1 was behind the other teams.”

“We weren’t happy with our performance in FP3 on Saturday as the main issues hadn’t been resolved, so we decided to make some more changes to the set-up before qualifying, which paid off.”

“In the end, Yuki will start from 9th on the grid and Pierre will start from 11th on the grid, so I think we were satisfied with the results.

“It will be very important to manage the tires and control degradation. If we can do this well, we should be able to see ourselves in the points.”
