FIFAD has been a resounding success
The 2022 edition of the Festival came to an end this afternoon. The results are pleasing, both in terms of attendance and rewards.
The Covid-19 is forgotten: the 53rd edition of the International Alpine Film Festival of Les Diablerets (FIFAD), which ended on Saturday, has returned to its pre-crisis attendance. The Grand Prize was awarded to “The Last Mountain”, by British director Chris Terrill.
It is the “moving” story of a young woman, Kate Ballard, who lost her mother, Alison Hargreaves, the first woman in the world to have climbed Everest alone and without oxygen in 1995, as well as her brother , British mountaineering rising star Tom Ballard, who died in 2019, a statement said. Coincidence: the Grand Prix of the 51st edition also went to a film called “The Last Mountain” (by Dariusz Zaluski).
Five films were awarded a Golden Devil: “Hey Gunesh” (Georgia), by Marita Tevzadze and Ana Jegnaradze, “Cache-cache” (Italy), by Paolo Bonfandini, Irène Cotrone and Davide Morando, “La liste : Everything or Nothing” (France), by Eric Crosland, “Lynx” (Switzerland), by Laurent Geslin and “WoGü, behind the scenes” (Switzerland), by Mathieu Rivoire and Nina Caprez. “Black Ice” (USA), by Peter Mortimer and Zachary Bar, received the Special Jury Prize.
“Enjoying” results
About 20,000 people took advantage of the atmosphere of the event and 13,000 attended the screenings in theaters, a result described as “gratifying” by the organizers. “After two 2020 and 2021 editions, however maintained in person, but with an audience impacted by the pandemic, the festival is relieved to find its record attendance this year”, they write.
About fifty films from twelve countries were shown. On the side of the guests were present Marie Amiguet and Vincent Munier, directors of “The Snow Panther”, the forest engineer Ernst Zürcher or Jacques Pitteloud, Swiss ambassador in Washington and passionate about wildlife photography.
Popular New Arrivals
The novelties concocted were a success, underlines the press release. Three cinema-concerts, a night in a bivouac with a projection at the Diablerets glacier, but also climbing the Matterhorn, the descent of an Alpine Skiing World Cup track and the discovery of an alpine pasture in virtual reality were offered . The digital platform set up in 2021 as an alternative to theatrical screenings has also enabled the festival to expand its audience.
Some 120 volunteers worked to ensure the smooth running of the event. The next edition will be held from August 5 to 12, 2023.
