Vom March 19th to 24th, 2023, the Masters World Championship will take place on the Hochkar. 1,500 athletes at the start.

In 2019, the FIS Masters World Championship should have taken place on the Hochkar for the second time after 2014. But the corona pandemic threw a spanner in the works for the major event.

But the Göstling-Hochkar Ski Club, headed by Robert Fahrnberger, kept an eye on the World Championships. Even then, the decision was made to apply to the FIS to host the Masters World Championships again. Now this should also take place from March 19th to 24th. The first meeting of the organizing committee has already taken place. “The planning is already in full swing. The anticipation for the big event is huge,” said press spokesman Waldemar Pöchhacker. In any case, around 200 athletes will be on the Hochkar every day. In total, the organizers are expecting around 1,500 athletes.

Added value for the region

Among others, local hero Rainer Herb, who is part of the organization team, will also be at the start. The multiple Masters world champion is also one of the favorites for medals. Especially on the local mountain.

But the region will also benefit from the Masters World Championship. The athletes travel to the Czech Republic a week beforehand after a race in order to be optimally prepared. “In terms of tourism, the World Cup is worth its weight in gold for a small region like the Ybbs and Erlauf valleys,” explains Pöchhacker. In 2014, a 95-year-old Japanese participant showed that you can still achieve top performances in old age.
