Croatian Donna Vekic shocked her Kazakh counterpart Jelena Rybakina, the world number three, after she excluded her from the Berlin German Tennis Championships, by defeating her 7-6 (7-1), 3-6, 4-6 today, Wednesday, to reach the quarter-finals.

Rybakina was hoping to go far in the Berlin Championship, in light of her quest to reach Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament this season, and to compete for the title she achieved last season there.

Rybakina was presenting a distinguished level in the recent period, after she reached the final of the Australian Open on hard courts, as well as winning the Indian Wells and Rome tournaments, and also reached the Miami final.

Rybakina did not participate in the French Roland Garros on clay, due to the injury that forced her to withdraw, although she was a candidate for the title.

There are two weeks left until the start of the Wimbledon Championships on the grass courts, and it will witness the presence of many players ranked among the top ten at the level of the professional classification, in addition to the participation of veteran Venus Williams (43 years) with an invitation card.
