The family said in a statement on Facebook that on December 23, 2023, during the celebration of their 18th wedding anniversary, Amanda and her husband Brian Rogers, along with their two dogs, were taking a walk along the Eagle River . During the walk, one of the pets fell while drinking water, prompting Amanda and Brian to run over to him to try to help him.

Tragically, in the attempt to rescue the dog, the woman fell and was unable to surface.

Amanda Richmond Rogers worked as an emergency room nurse, death scene investigator, pediatric hospice nurse, and was also the mother of four boys.

For their search and rescue, donations were made to the Alaska Diving Search Rescue and Recovery Team to maintain, repair and replace lifeguards’ equipment, pay for fuel, work on unsolved cases, pay expenses in advance during missions and others.

“She would have made this choice for her dogs and her family again, without a second thought,” the family said.
