America hosts a meeting of trade and economic officials in 14 countries

The United States will host a virtual meeting on Tuesday of officials representing 14 countries that have joined the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework as Washington seeks to expand its engagement with Asia.

The ministerial meeting will be hosted by US Trade Representative Catherine Taye and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo; This is according to what was issued by their offices in a statement on Sunday.

President Joe Biden introduced the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework in May during a visit to Tokyo, with the aim of using it as a way to raise environmental, labor and other standards across Asia.

In addition to the United States, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework includes Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The statement said: Topics for discussion at Tuesday’s meeting include trade, supply chains, clean energy, infrastructure, taxation and anti-corruption.
