American fashion icon Iris Apfel has died

American fashion icon Iris Apfel has died at the age of 102 at her Florida home. Apfel was known worldwide for her oversized glasses and extravagant, brightly colored wardrobe.

She originally worked as an interior decorator together with her husband, they helped nine American presidents in the renovation of the White House. He became world-famous in the 2000s and was a regular guest at major fashion shows in Paris, New York and London.

In 2005, an exhibition of her iconic wardrobe was held at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, a documentary was made regarding her, she received a modeling contract, and a Barbie doll was modeled following her.
