American Gymnasts Dominate World Championships Once Again: Simone Biles Makes Epic Comeback

2023-10-04 20:13:07

For the 7th consecutive time, American gymnasts were crowned world team champions. Simone Biles, back following 2 years of absence, won the 20th world title of her career.

They thus extend the reign of the United States over the women’s team competition, which has lasted since 2011. With 167.729 points, they are ahead of the Brazilians (165.530) and the French (164.064). This team victory gives Simone Biles her 26th world medal and her 20th title, a new record.

The American is making her return to the international level in Antwerp, 2 years following the grueling Tokyo Olympics. Arriving in Japan with the status of big favorite following her 4 titles won 5 years earlier in Rio, Biles had collapsed, withdrawing from most of the events because of “twisties”, sudden losses of any reference in space.
