Amputating the Sahara from the map of Morocco, does not satisfy the Polisario

The Polisario is not satisfied with the decision of the Spanish government to restore the line separating the map of Morocco from the Sahara. The Front requires the executive chaired by Pedro Sanchez to revise its support for the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara.

“If Spain wants to correct its error towards the Sahrawi people, it must publicly reconsider its position of support for the Moroccan occupation. The Spanish government has caused a lot of damage with its position expressed in the letter from the President of the Government to the King of Morocco,” said Oubi Bouchraya, Polisario representative to the European Union, in an interview granted this Sunday, October 9. to the Algerian news channel ALG24.

He considered that Pedro Sanchez “is obliged to correct this serious error, by publicly abandoning this turning point and the explicit support of the Spanish government for Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara”. Oubi explained that by aligning himself with the positions of the kingdom, Pedro Sanchez deviated from the traditional line followed on this file by his predecessors and abandoned “the historical, moral and legal responsibilities of Spain towards the rights of the Sahrawi people”.

As a reminder, the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID), under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, amputated the Sahara from the map of Morocco. An announcement made this Thursday, October 6, by the department headed by José Manuel Albares in a response to a written question, asked six months ago by Senator Carles Mulet, of the Compromise Party.

This parliamentarian, close to the Polisario, had denounced, in April in a written question addressed to the head of diplomacy, that the AECID had adopted a map of Morocco integrating the Sahara. He then spoke of “violation of international legality and submission” to Morocco.
