Amundi Tokenizes STOXX Europe 600 Equity Index Fund on Ethereum

Amundi, Europe’s largest asset manager by assets under management, has officially launched a tokenized share class of its STOXX Europe 600 equity index fund on the Ethereum blockchain. This expansion into equity tokenization marks a strategic move by the firm to move beyond its previous offerings in money market funds.

The new share class was developed in collaboration with CACEIS, a European asset services firm that provided the necessary infrastructure for the tokenization process. While the fund now exists on the blockchain, Amundi confirmed in an announcement on Thursday that the fund remains available through traditional investment channels.

Expanding Blockchain Integration

The STOXX Europe 600 index tracks 600 companies across large, mid, and small-cap segments within developed European markets. Amundi plans to develop a wider range of tokenized funds for institutional clients and digital platforms, citing potential improvements in accessibility, settlement speeds, and operational efficiency.

The Landscape of Tokenized Assets

Amundi’s latest project enters a rapidly growing global market for tokenized equities. According to data from RWA.xyz, the value of tokenized stocks reached $4.24 billion as of November 4, reflecting a nearly 27% increase over the previous 30 days. Despite this growth, the largest products currently remain concentrated in assets tied to the United States, such as those issued by Securitize, SpaceX, Circle, and Alphabet.

A coalition of 39 European firms and industry groups previously warned that the European Union risks falling behind the U.S. in tokenized finance. These groups have urged regulators to accelerate reforms under the bloc’s Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) Pilot Regime, specifically calling for the removal of temporary licensing restrictions and the expansion of asset eligibility. Future regulatory frameworks, including the implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, will shape the long-term adoption of such tokenized products in the region.
