The situation in Ukraine has become a candidate for further escalation of the confrontation, after yesterday (Thursday) the Russian province of Bryansk, bordering Ukraine, witnessed a remarkable attack about which there were conflicting data between the Russian and Ukrainian accounts.
Moscow said that “Ukrainian commando units” penetrated the border town and shot a moving car before its members took hostages, while Ukraine denied its connection to the incident, and it was likely that the Russian special services had planned it to “frighten the Russians” or that it was groups opposed to the policies of The Kremlin carried out the attack.
The ambiguity surrounding the incident was heightened by the absence of any information on the nature of developments in the situation in the area where the incident took place. The choice of the location of the attack in the northern regions, away from the contact lines in southern Ukraine, raised additional questions, in addition to the fact that the attack took place close to the Belarusian border.
And the Russian Federal Security Service (Ministry) stated, in a statement, that its units, in cooperation with the army forces, “attempted to liquidate an armed group of Ukrainian nationalists” that had crossed the border.
Russia’s Security Council held an emergency meeting, attended by President Vladimir Putin, to discuss how to deal with the development. Putin said the attackers “opened fire on Russian civilians” and vowed that the Russian army “will protect civilians from neo-Nazis and terrorists who have always tortured and killed people before in Donbass.” . She opened this statement to the expectation that Russia would take measures for what was described as a “decisive response” to the attack.
