For her film “It’s Time for Love”, French director Catel Kellevere won the Grand Prize in the activities of the 16th edition of “Angoulême Francophone Film Festival“.

Killiverey (43 years old) succeeded in drawing a historical and emotional portrait of the fate of a woman who was subjected to public humiliation for having an emotional relationship with a German soldier during World War II.

The film returns in history to the year 1947, on the coast of the Normandy region in northwestern France, where Madeleine (played by Anaïs Dumustier), a waitress in a hotel restaurant and the mother of a young child, gets acquainted with François (played by Vincent Lacoste), a rich and educated student, but he is surrounded by obscured. Love at first sight arose between them, and it wasn’t long before they got married.

For Madeleine, the connection was an opportunity to overcome the horrors of war and forget the German military, with whom she had a relationship during the occupation and gave birth to her son Daniel, which exposed her to popular resentment, so her head was shaved and she was expelled from her home.

“A story that was kept secret for a very long time. When the truth was finally revealed, I wanted to make this film, and it is not completely autobiographical,” Killivere told AFP.

The film, which was the fruit of years of work, was previously shown outside the Cannes Festival competition last May, and the director was inspired by the life of her grandmother, who gave birth to a child from a soldier in the German army when she was 17 years old.

This award may be a gateway to fame for Catel Killivere, who has not yet been in the limelight, although she is not completely unknown, as her previous films have achieved a degree of success.

The Angoulême Francophone Film Festival is witnessing increasing success, with record participation. Despite the heat wave, 58,000 people came to its halls, compared to 52,000 people in 2022.
