Animal and fish products: Côte d’Ivoire will meet 65% of its needs in 2026

The production of animal and fishery resources will cover 65% of the consumption needs of the populations in Côte d’Ivoire in 2026. According to the Ivorian Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Sidi Tiémoko Touré, quoted by the local press. In 2019, local production only covered 26.7% of the needs for these products.

This cover will contribute to reducing the imports of animal and fish products which are estimated at more than 400 billion FCFA. The increase in production will also contribute to the creation of more than 700,000 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs.

According to Mr. Touré, the livestock, fishing and aquaculture sector has set itself the objective of “achieving sovereignty in animal and fish products”. According to figures from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) in 2016, the contribution of the animal and fishery resources sector to national and agricultural GDP remains “low”. It contributed about 4.5% for agricultural GDP and 2 % for total GDP.
