“Anti-spanking law”: The ban on educational violence is still floundering in Belgium


Belgium is one of the only countries in Europe not to have legislated on the subject.

Belgium is one of the rare countries in Europe not to have formally prohibited so-called ordinary educational violence (VDEO). This state of affairs has been denounced on several occasions by the European Committee of Social Rights, which sees in this absence of prohibition a violation of its charter. Last year, eight organizations for the defense of children’s rights united to demand an explicit ban on this violence, which can be of a physical or moral nature, without much result.
