Police are appealing for witnesses in an attempted kidnapping of a minor. The facts took place on Thursday February 23, 2023 around 12:30 p.m. in the ‘Spaanskasteelplein’ district, behind the St Macharius church, in Ghent.
As a 10-year-old girl was playing, she felt a stranger’s hand on her shoulder. He said to her in Dutch with an English accent “come with me”, reports the federal police in a press release. The little girl pushed him away and ran away.
The suspect is a man aged around 50 and measuring between 1m65 and 1m75.
He has dark brown eyes and short, black, graying hair. He is thin and has wrinkles on his cheeks. He has untidy yellow teeth.
That day, he wore a black cap with a green pattern and white lettering, a black leather jacket, black pants, and black sneakers.
The man is a smoker.
Investigators are also calling on people who witnessed this to come forward.
