Apple asks Samsung for help to finish the job

Apple is reportedly finalizing the design of its M2 chip, which could be released sometime this year.

In November 2020, Apple presented three new computer models that would revolutionize the market. With a Mac Mini, a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro, the Cupertino company had just presented the most powerful products for their line that have ever existed. Since the end of the partnership with Intel, recorded by the apple at the beginning of 2020, the Cupertino company has been working in the shadows on the production of an overpowered “home” chip, which would ridicule Intel, the ally of ‘yesterday, and today’s enemy.

With the M1 chip, it’s done. Apple knocks out the competition and establishes its dominance in a market it has just introduced. Then a novice in the field of computer chips, the Cupertino company has just left its mark on history. But once the excitement of the announcement has passed, everyone is now waiting for the arrival of the M2 chip.

M2: the confirmation processor for Apple

Because in the world of new technologies as elsewhere, the hardest thing is not to be first, but to remain so. As such, Apple is working on the design of an M2 chip, which is just as revolutionary as the M1 chip. To make Apple lovers wait over these two years, Apple has succeeded in producing new versions of its system, with the M1 Pro, the M1 Max and the latest M1 Ultra, which can be found in the Mac Studio.

But in the end, the public is waiting for Apple at the turn with the M2, and the least we can say is that the Californian firm knows how to be desired. For more than a year and a half the world has been waiting, and the M2 chipthough repeatedly heralded by rumors just days before the keynotes, never happens.

So recent reports say that development of the chip is still not complete. Yet a primary stage, which must be completed months before the start of production. In other words, we can wait a while longer. Caught in technical problems of all kinds, Apple seems lost according to the latest reports, and the Cupertino company is even asking its rival Samsung for help in developing this new chip.

An arrival for the fall?

According to the latest news from the news site ETNews Apple could market its chip in the second half of the year. Why not in an anniversary event, two years after the arrival of the M1 chip on the market? A timing that meets the expectations of Mark Gurman, journalist for Bloomberg and who is recognized as one of the finest connoisseurs of the apple brand.

According to him, the delay of Apple would be explained by the complexity of the work carried out by the Apple in submarine. He explains that the Cupertino teams are working on four different chips, the “normal” M2, the Pro, Max and Ultra version, as for the M1 chip.
