Apple is just starting to develop its M4 MacBook Pros

The development of the next MacBook Pro series has just “formally begun,” said Mark Gurman during a series of Q&A on Apple’s abandonment of its automobile project.

These MacBook Pros will be equipped with the M4 generation of processors, but the journalist from Bloomberg say no more. Apple has not yet even completed the transition of its ranges to the M3 platform. This is done for all its laptops, for the iMac as well, but there remains the (semi)-professional office machines: Mac mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro.

Last year, Apple surprised by launching two generations of MacBook Pros in the space of less than 12 months: the M2 Pro/Max in January then their successors in November.

There have been few rumors to date about what these next laptops will bring. L’Economic Daily reported last month that Apple planned to significantly increase the processing capabilities of the Neural Engine in the M4 and its cousin the A18.

Still as part of these Q&A, Gurman slipped a word on the processor that Apple’s vehicle could have carried. Apparently this would have consisted of the equivalent of four M2 Ultras combined – the most powerful Mac Studio and Mac Pro only have one – and its development was practically complete.
