Apple reportedly blocked latest Telegram update for emoji story

The latest Telegram update was denied by Apple because of Telemoji, improved emoji. It is available now on iOS, without Telemoji.

Ever since Apple launched its App Store, developers, young and old, often get caught by the little pixies of brand validation at the apple. This delays the release of updates, or even prevents them altogether. The messaging app Telegram, very popular, has just paid the price, according to its CEO, Pavel Durov. The latter posted a message on his Telegram channel explaining that the latest version had been blocked by apple for two weeks without the American giant really giving the reason for this decision.

Telegram’s latest update was denied by Apple

As specified by The Verge, the update was finally able to be deployed very recently and Pavel Durov returned to the subject via Telegram. Apple has reportedly asked Telegram to remove a new feature called Telemoji, which the CEO says offers “higher-quality versions of standard emoji.” Pavel Durov even included a preview of these improved emoji in his post: these are very similar to those used by Apple, but with very clean and successful animations, to make the platform even more expressive.

because of Telemoji, improved emoji

“It’s a baffling decision by Apple because Telemoji would have brought a whole new dimension to low-res static emoji and would have significantly enriched their ecosystem,” writes Pavel Durov in his post. It’s hard to know exactly how this feature could enrich Apple’s ecosystem, but in any case it’s pretty bad publicity for Apple, especially when you know that Telegram already has many sticker and emoji options ranging far beyond what iOS offers. Pavel Durov also specified that there are more than 10 new emoji packs in the latest Telegram update and that the company will take the time necessary to make Telemoji “even more unique and recognizable”.

However, there are still a large number ofemoji improvements in this release. The company explains that it is launching an “open emoji platform” where anyone can submit their own emoji packs, accessible to paid telegram users. If you’re not premium, you’ll still be able to see these custom emoji and try them out in “saved messages” like reminders and other in-app notes. And if you tap on these custom emoji, you can even see their full-screen animations.

To make it all easier to access, the sticker, GIF, and emoji panel has been redesigned, with tabs for each reaction category. This allows the iOS app’s keyboard to match the app’s keyboard Android as well as with the web version of Telegram. There are also new privacy settings to control who can send you video and voice messages – everyone, contacts only, or no one -. Telegram clarifies that, like its other privacy settings, you can set “exceptions” so that specific groups or users can “always” or “never” send you video or voice messages. This update, without Telemoji, is available now.
