No one will be surprised to learn that Apple multiplies the prototypes in the secrecy of its labs. Prototypes that rarely lead to commercial products, but it is still interesting to take a look behind the veil of mystery to see what the manufacturer is working on.
A source of MacRumors, announced as reliable by the site, reports three iMac prototypes developed by Apple in the second half of last year. The first, designed before August, had the same design as a 27-inch Intel iMac, but with an M1 chip. The second, which dates back to August, sported the angular shapes of the 24-inch iMac, but with a 27-inch screen and still with an M1 chip.
Finally, a last prototype in November took up the design of the previous model (iMac M1 with a diagonal of 27 inches) but with an XDR screen, a black finish, and an M1 Max chip. These rumors are to be taken with the usual tweezers, but the third prototype is enough to make your mouth water (and scare the banker) with its iMac Pro look and its screen reminiscent of the Pro Display XDR.
L’iMac Pro and the27 inch iMac disappeared from Apple’s catalog. Since last March, the Apple only offers the 24-inch all-in-one. Nevertheless, the hypothesis of the launch of a 27-inch “pro” version regularly comes back to haunt the news. Mark Gurman had mentioned at the beginning of July an iMac « intended for the professional market » equipped with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.
