Apple Services would have 900 million paid subscriptions!
Since yesterday, Apple Services are in turmoil. Some even uttered the fateful word reorganization! Could the slot machine seize up? No, but its director, Peter Stern would be leaving, he who was supposed to succeed Eddy Cue…
This year 2023 does not really start under the best omens : the economic crisis and pandemic recovery got the better of iPhone production. This situation could taint the quarterly results that will be released in early February. And, to this product crisis, would now be added the reshuffle of the Services activity, which would be split into three departments.
So many reasons that could explain this open letter from Eddy Cue on the Apple website! Indeed, the senior manager of Apple Services engages in a styling exerciseextolling the merits of the Services, a world where everything is fine (without trial or investigation)… An experience that made you laugh, taught you something new, or helped you see the world in a new wayor extraordinary work of creators around the worldwith especially a content at your fingertips.
No doubt ! The speech is well established and we find there the values dear to Apple and Tim Cook : Our mission has always been to enrich people’s lives and leave the world better than we found it. […] We believe privacy is a basic human right and our greatest obligation to our customers is security.. It even includes a one more thinga small ending teaser announcing that there is many more to come.
900 million paid subscriptions and 320 billion generated for developers since 2008
We still recover on the way some figures on Apple TV+, the App Store, Apple Arcade, Shazam, Apple Fitness + and sports in general, Apple News +, Apple Podcasts, Books, Maps, Apple Pay, Apple Card and finally iCloud+.
Thus, Cupertino would count 900 million paid subscriptions all services combined, and the App Store would have generated more than 320 billion dollars in revenue intended for developers since its launch in 2008 (after deduction of the 30% commission in the pockets of Apple but this question will never be addressed…).
For the rest, Apple Music would now offer more than 100 million songs, representing almost the entire history of recorded music. Apple TV+ would have recorded 1,305 award nominations, to win 300. Apple Arcade subscribers would have unlimited access to over 200 games (a constantly changing number). 2022 would have been a big year for Shazam, marking the service’s 20th anniversary with 70 billion requests.
Not to be outdone is Apple Fitness+ now available to iPhone users in 21 countries, even if they don’t have an Apple Watch. The library now offers 3,500 workouts and meditations. Apple Maps has rolled out new detailed mapping in 13 new countries and territories around the world. Finally, Apple Pay is offered to millions of merchants in nearly 70 countries, in partnership with more than 10,000 banking partners worldwide.
At last, for 2022, we will note several important milestones : 50 games added on Apple Arcade, the milestone of 100 million songs exceeded for Apple Music (which also received the Spatial Audio and Apple Music Sing), an Oscar for CODA or an Emmy Award for the second consecutive year for Ted Lasso .
