As Bloomberg recently announced, citing people familiar with the matter, Apple is planning extensive innovations to boost its recently mixed PC sales. Accordingly, the iGroup is preparing to revamp its entire Mac series with new, in-house processors that are designed for artificial intelligence.

New M4 Macs

Almost six months ago, Apple released its first Macs with M3 chips. The Cupertino-based company is now on the verge of producing the next generation, so the new Macs are expected to come onto the market this year. As with its predecessors, there should be at least three main variants, the M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max. The M4 Ultra could possibly follow later. As stated on the Apple blog Macerkopf.de, the new chips are intended to improve both computing power and energy efficiency.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new chips will first be installed in the MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″, iMac and Mac mini. Further models such as a new MacBook Air, a new Mac Studio and Mac Pro will then be released throughout 2025, it says.

With the new processors, Apple should focus in particular on AI functions, and the AI performance capabilities of the entire Mac series should be significantly improved.

Apple shares benefit from Mac news

Apple shares ultimately rose by 4.33 percent to $175.04 in Thursday trading on the NASDAQ, after temporarily rising in price by around 4.6 percent. In premarket trading on Friday there was a marginal decline of 0.31 percent to $174.50.

Investors expect new details about Apple’s plans for both the new Mac series and overall in mid-June, as the next important event for the iGroup will take place there: the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference).
