It will probably be a while before the Apple Vision Pro is available in Germany and Austria, because the start of sales is not planned before the end of 2024, possibly even as late as 2025. Apple is still working on issues with wearing comfort.

Apple Vision Pro will be available in the US in early 2024 for $3,500. Apple has not yet given any specific information about the international launch. How Bloomberg reported that the sale of the mixed reality headset in Canada and Great Britain is scheduled for the end of 2024, “shortly after” the headset will also be launched in the rest of Europe.

At the start, Vision Pro can only be purchased in Apple Stores with an appointment. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that the size of the headband and cloth cover fits the user, and that dioptric correction is installed on the spot if necessary – but Zeiss lenses could get expensive. In order to be able to sell Vision Pro online, Apple is developing an iPhone app that scans the customer’s head to determine the correct size for accessories.

Most Apple Stores are said to only receive one or two headsets for demonstration purposes, as the device is expected to be available in limited quantities initially – the Financial Times recently stated that only 400,000 units will be produced in calendar year 2024. At the moment there are apparently still problems with wearing comfort, especially for users with smaller heads. For this reason, Apple is developing an additional band that runs over the head, but this is not yet ready for the market. Another problem is the fragile, curved glass on the front of the headset, which is said to break relatively quickly if users run into a wall. To prevent this, visionOS displays an alarm if the user moves too quickly.
