Pricing, Sizes, and the Titanium and Ceramic Lineup
Apple maintains a $399 base price for the smaller 42mm aluminum model of the Series 12, matching the starting price of its predecessor, according to Mashable. However, buyers eyeing the larger 46mm aluminum version will encounter a $20 price bump, with that size starting at $449 and creating a $50 gap between the two dimensions. Titanium variants maintain their positioning, with the 42mm and 46mm titanium models starting at $699 and $749, respectively.
A notable addition to the material options is a new ceramic case tier. The ceramic Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $899 for the 42mm size and $949 for the 46mm model, coming in pearl white and night blue finishes. While aluminum models are available in dark bronze, light gold, black, and space gray, titanium options include radiant gold and natural. Furthermore, aluminum versions now feature Ceramic Shield 2 glass, which Apple states is 60 percent tougher than the Ion-X glass used on previous aluminum generations.

The headline software and sensor overhaul centers on the new Health Sensing System, which utilizes redesigned optical and electrical heart sensors paired with the S11 chip. Apple backs its monitoring precision with a study of over 1,000 participants that compared the wearable’s heart rate accuracy against leading competitors. By employing larger, power-efficient green LEDs, the watch measures heart rate every five seconds continuously, feeding data into a new readiness score.
The readiness score ranges from zero to ten, factoring in recent activity, training load, sleep metrics, and vitals. As Apple explained in its official announcement, the system provides daily recommendations categorized as recover, ready, pace yourself, or go for it. Alongside the readiness metric, heart rate variability is tracked up to 24 times more frequently and divided into recovery HRV for daily stress assessment and overall HRV for broader cardiovascular insights.

Audio Intelligence, Siri AI, and On-Device Processing
Processing power from the S11 chip enables on-device machine learning for new audio and assistant capabilities operating under watchOS 27. Audio Intelligence features use the built-in microphone to power a Live Rewind function, allowing users to double-press the crown to view a text transcript of the last 15 seconds of conversation. Siri Recap further processes conversations to generate titles and key points accessible within the Siri app.
Privacy infrastructure isolates these intelligence functions within a secure hardware component known as the Secure Exclave, ensuring audio is neither recorded nor stored locally on the watch.
