What is this Apple Magic Keyboard?

The Magic Keyboard is a minimalist keyboard, designed for use with Apple computers. Its minimalist design is sleek and pairs perfectly well with Apple’s range of accessories. Its dimensions of 11.5 × 27.9 × 1.1 cm and its weight of less than 250 g make it a portable keyboard that is easy to transport and to slip into a bag. Its design is solid and even if it will not withstand repeated falls from your desk, transport can be done serenely. This promotional version does not have a numeric keypad, in order to further reduce its size.

The keyboard connects quickly via Bluetooth and can be paired with a tablet or a mobile, in addition to your Mac, on which it automatically associates as soon as it is switched on. The Magic Keyboard comes with a USB‑C to Lightning cable. Of course, you can pair your devices with it and charge it through your Mac’s USB‑C port. Regarding autonomy, even with use for several hours a day, the Magic Keyboard will last a good month before running out of steam. Count two short hours to recharge it. Note that the keyboard goes to sleep automatically to save battery power.

Is the 20% off Magic Keyboard for Mac worth it?

This is an excellent deal for a very good keyboard. The typing sensation offered by the Magic Keyboard does not reach the level of a high-end mechanical keyboard, but is still comfortable. Apple is ditching the butterfly keyboard and returning to a much nicer traditional scissor mechanism. The touch is much firmer and the typing, if not more precise, is more natural. This also gives Apple the opportunity to offer a compact keyboard.

The novelty of this Magic Keyboard compared to its predecessor is the appearance of Touch ID. The latter, like the Touch ID present on iPhone, allows you to secure the opening of your user session, access to passwords or to initiate payment via Apple Pay. Unfortunately, only Macs equipped with Apple’s famous M1 chip are compatible with Touch ID.
