Apple’s New Health Features for Smart Watch 2024 & Court Ruling on Sales

Apple is working on developing new health-related features for its smart watch in preparation for providing them with upcoming releases in the coming year 2024.

According to what the American newspaper Bloomberg reported in its latest report, the expected advantages include the possibility of tracking blood pressure via the wrist, as the watch will be able to detect high blood pressure through measurements made by special sensors on the blood vessels in the wrist, in addition to detecting cases of apnea in the wrist. While sleeping through measurements and breathing patterns, then alert users if they notice abnormal results.

The report indicated that the Apple Watch will be able to alert its owners if their blood pressure rises above normal measurements so that they can inform the treating physician, but the watch will not initially provide any specific measurements of systolic and diastolic pressure, as is the case with devices specialized in measuring blood pressure.

Apple usually provides these health features to guide users and alert them when abnormal measurements are detected, and they are in no way a substitute for receiving medical advice or resorting to the use of specialized measuring devices. It is expected that Apple will launch one of its upcoming versions of the watch with a new and improved design, which is most likely the version Basic of the hour.

It is worth noting that diagnosing cases of sleep apnea usually requires a sleep study test at a specialized center, but this technology may help facilitate the diagnosis of cases with mild symptoms and signs, or track cases that have already been diagnosed, and contribute to improving sleep.

A court ruling stops sales

On the other hand, Apple announced that it will soon stop sales of its leading models of its smart watch in the United States, and the “Apple Watch Series 9” and “Apple Watch Ultra 2” will not be available for purchase in America soon.

The move follows the International Trade Commission’s ruling in the long-running patent dispute between the iPhone maker and medical technology company Masimo regarding blood oxygen sensing technology in smart watches.

The “Apple Watch Series 9” and “Apple Watch Ultra 2” will not be available for order from Apple’s website after December 21st, and smart watches in retail stores will not be available for sale after the 24th of the same month.
