Aprilia’s Maverick Viñales Shines with Podium Finish in MotoGP Sprint at Silverstone

Aprilia factory rider Maverick Viñales secured third place in the MotoGP sprint at Silverstone. The Spaniard was also able to overtake his team-mate Aleix Espargaró, who launched an attack with five laps to go and came quite close to his compatriot.

Viñales was seventh on the first lap and consistently and flawlessly passed his opponents – including a near-touch with Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM). “I think it’s a boost to start the second half of the season like this. We were often quick, but for some reason we didn’t manage to get everything together. But we kept working. I’m very happy about the race. In such conditions we had problems recently. But this time it went great, »emphasized Maverick.

“Top Gun” ticked off his fall on Friday: “I had a crash on Friday, but it was okay on Saturday. I’m not worried about that for the main race either. From a physical point of view, I will give my best – we also worked on that in the summer. We have a good rhythm but still need to make slight changes to the bike. We hope that we will also have a good race on Sunday.”

Interesting: Viñales has now been on the podium with three different manufacturers at Silverstone – in the fight for the record of being the first to achieve victories with three manufacturers (Suzuki, Yamaha, Aprilia), he is currently dueling with Jack Miller (Honda, Ducati, KTM). Viñales demonstratively pushes this topic aside: “We remain calm, of course we want to maintain the momentum now. But of course we always have this goal in mind and want to achieve it one day.”

Viñales didn’t want to say anything about working with the Aprilia factory team and the precarious situation of the Japanese manufacturers – including his ex-employer Yamaha – in MotoGP on Saturday afternoon and just smiled: “It’s not my problem, please pass the question on.”

On the other hand, the Spaniard had a clear opinion on the conditions on Saturday morning and in qualifying: “It was a clear red flag for me!”
