Are Cosmetics in Free-to-Play Games Getting Too Expensive? Halo Infinite’s $22 Skin Sparks Controversy

Article: Alex Hopley – Gamereactor.cn Cosmetics are becoming increasingly expensive these days, especially in the free-to-play space. The price of the skin for Overwatch 2 players has soared to $40, and now it’s Halo Infinite’s turn. The Combat Evolved Mark V armor was released yesterday. For those unaware, this is the original armor worn by Master Chief in the first Halo game. For a total of $22, this skin can be yours. However, for the same price, you can get two remastered copies of the first Halo game, or most of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. If the bundle is on sale, you can easily find it on Steam for $22. Fans on Resetera are unhappy with this pricing strategy, and while we do understand that a free-to-play game has to make money somewhere, it does feel a bit ridiculous when the price of a skin amounts to most, if not all, of the cost of the full game.
