Argentina and New Zealand are in the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup. The South Americans surprisingly won against Wales 29:17 (6:10) in Marseille on Saturday and will now face New Zealand on Friday, who beat world number one Ireland 28:24 (18:17) in the Stade de France in Paris. The other quarter-finals will be played on Sunday by England – Fiji (5 p.m.) and hosts France – South Africa (9 p.m.).
New Zealand prevailed in the thriller against Six Nations champions Ireland. The “All Blacks” can therefore continue to hope for their fourth World Cup title, which would make them the sole record winner ahead of South Africa. Ireland’s 17-win run ended. Nothing came of the first semi-final participation at a World Cup.
Argentina surprisingly won 29:17 after a 10-0 deficit in the packed Stade Velodrome, much to the dismay of grandstand guest Prince William, and made it to a World Cup semi-final for the third time. But the Argentines have never won the title.
