Jeremie Andrew Sowerby, a 48-year-old resident of Fountain Hills, Arizona, pleaded guilty to wire fraud earlier this month, admitting to orchestrating complex investment scams that defrauded hundreds of victims out of millions of dollars between 2017 and 2023, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
An Expanding Web of Deceit Across Multiple Entities
The guilty plea, finalized before United States District Judge Susan M. Brnovich, resolves federal charges filed across three separate criminal cases (Case Numbers CR-23-01586-PHX-SMB, CR-23-01321-PHX-SMB, and CR-23-01757-PHX-SMB).
According to federal court documents, the earliest wave of fraud ran from 2017 through 2018. Operating under the guise of three distinct entities—Now Mining, VIP Mining, and Millennium Technologies—Sowerby positioned himself as a multi-level marketing promoter. Through these fronts, he defrauded approximately 400 victims of at least $7.5 million in a cryptocurrency investment scheme. Sowerby was originally indicted alongside a co-defendant, Luis Ortega, whose criminal proceedings remain pending.
Ghost Hardware and Phantom Hedge Funds
Sowerby did not stop after the collapse of his initial mining fronts. Between 2018 and 2019, he launched Dumanis Global Technologies, victimizing at least 150 additional people. In this iteration, he convinced buyers to purchase physical cryptocurrency mining machines, alongside recurring monthly power and storage overhead costs. The hardware simply did not exist, leaving victims facing millions of dollars in total losses.
The final phase of Sowerby’s fraudulent enterprise targeted high-income earners through a purported hedge fund named Justice Capital, operating from 2021 through 2023. Marketed as an exclusive vehicle trading via a proprietary “bot” algorithm, this scheme squeezed an additional $207,000 out of an individual victim.
Restitution and Continuing Federal Investigation
A conviction for wire fraud carries a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in federal prison. Sentencing is officially scheduled for October 14, 2026. As an explicit condition of his plea agreement, Sowerby has agreed to pay restitution of up to $30 million.

Entities cited in the plea agreement include:
- Now Mining
- VIP Mining
- Millennium Technologies
- Dumanis Global Technologies

The investigation is being aggressively spearheaded by the FBI’s Phoenix Division alongside IRS-Criminal Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsay Short handling the prosecution. Federal authorities emphasize that law enforcement continues actively identifying impacted individuals. Anyone who believes they fell victim to Sowerby, Ortega, or any of the associated corporate entities and who has not yet spoken with investigators is urged to complete the official Department of Justice Victim Questionnaire. All defendants remain legally presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
