ALGIERS – Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab received, Thursday, a delegation from the Australian mining company “Lionsbridge” led by its CEO, Brian Wesson, with whom he examined the opportunities and potentialities cooperation, investment and partnership in the mining sector, indicates a press release from the ministry.

During this meeting which took place at the ministry’s headquarters, in the presence of the CEO of the Sonarem group and ministry executives, discussions between the two parties focused on opportunities and potential for cooperation, investment and partnership. in the mining sector, in particular between the “Sonarem” group and “Lionsbridge”, with a view to launching partnership projects in the exploitation of mining resources in Algeria such as the mining and industrial exploitation of gold project in Tirek and Amesmessa in the wilaya of Tamanrasset, specifies the same source.

The two parties welcomed the “fruitful” results of cooperation between “Sonarem” and Australian mining companies in general and examined “ways to strengthen it to include projects for the exploitation of different mineral resources in Algeria in the future” .

On this occasion, Mr. Wesson presented a comprehensive presentation on Lionsbridge’s strategy for the development and sustainable and long-term exploitation of the Tirek and Amesmessa gold deposits in the south of the country, as well as the projects of the manufacturing industry in this area in a sustainable manner, relying on environmental protection, training, technology transfer, promotion of local content and the creation of wealth and employment, adds the same source.

Highlighting the socio-economic importance of this project which is part of the development of the mining sector and the relaunch of mining activities with a view to optimizing the exploitation of this wealth at the national level, Mr. Arkab affirmed “the “support of its sector for partnership in all investment projects aimed at creating wealth and employment opportunities in Algeria.”

For his part, Mr. Wesson displayed Lionsbridge’s desire to “invest in the Algerian mining sector, to realize investment projects with the Sonarem group in a responsible manner on both environmental and social levels, in particular the exploitation project Amesmessa and Tirek mines based on environmental protection and safety requirements.

Mr. Wesson also pledged to “work seriously to preserve the environment in the region for sustainable development, while relying on the company’s experience in sophisticated technologies in the field of mining “.
