Armenian communities in Vienna, New York and Geneva demand clarification from the UN over scandalous report on Nagorno-Karabakh

Vienna (OTS) The Armenian communities in Vienna, New York and Geneva, all headquarters of the United Nations (UN), came together yesterday, Monday, in a joint action to protest once morest a scandalous UN report on Nagorno-Karabakh (1). This report was created following an alleged fact-finding mission on October 1, 2023 and massively trivializes the situation in Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh following the ethnic cleansing of which the Armenians fell victim.

It also raises the question of whether this report may be linked to a $1 million donation to the UN by authoritarian Azerbaijani President Aliyev a day earlier.

The UN report in question completely omits the forced displacement of over 100,000 Armenians who were previously subjected to a cruel blockade by Azerbaijan for nine months. The report also makes no mention of the bombing of Nagorno-Karabakh and the destruction of centuries-old Armenian cultural assets.

The protest letter from the three Armenian communities calls for a thorough investigation of the incident and a serious investigation into the human rights violations. The communities are also pushing for the deployment of a permanent UN peacekeeping mission to enable the Armenians to return to their millennia-old homeland, as well as a visit by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk. At the same time, a UNESCO mission to protect cultural heritage is called for.
