Arnaud hasn’t received electricity bills for… 14 months: “I don’t know how much regularization will cost me”

Be careful if you changed your energy contract in November or December 2021. You probably haven’t received any bills for a long time. This concerns more than 23,000 people. During those two months, there was a change in the computer system and the data was not transferred correctly. Arnaud notably contacted us via the orange Alert us button. He hasn’t received a bill for 14 months. Regularization may hurt.

In Stembert (Verviers), Arnaud watches his electricity account run without paying anything for 14 months. He knows that one day a big bill will arrive. Since he does not know the conditions of his contract, he does not know the amount. “The situation is uncomfortable, is annoying. I don’t know how much it’s costing me. I know more or less, because I’m doing little calculations on my own, but it shouldn’t work like that”he confides.

In November 2021, at federal level, the computer system for transmitting data between suppliers (Luminus, Engie, etc.) and distributors (Ores, Resa) changed. It didn’t go as planned. Bugs appeared. The data of around 23,000 customers on the French-speaking side remained blocked.

“I’ve already rung, I don’t know how many times, to the Luminus supplier, to the network manager, Ores. They tell me ‘we’ll see what we can do’, ‘We’re trying to regularize the situation as soon as possible. quickly’, but I notice that it never changed anything”, indicates Arnaud.

Solving computer problems does not go as planned. New cases are still occurring now. Today, most stranded customers are picked up one by one, by a real person.

“The objective is to achieve a reduction in the number of cases by the summer. Then, for the end of the year”, explains Jean-Michel Brebant, the spokesperson for Ores.

Arnaud is cautious. He follows the course of energy prices and sets aside a sum each month that would allow him to avoid unpleasant surprises. He also hopes that the federal energy bonuses will be taken into account in the big bill that awaits him.
