Artificial intelligence and hyperfaking: a “safeword” to confirm your identity

With the rise of new technologies and artificial intelligence, it could be worth setting up a security password within the couple or the family cocoon to confirm their identity.

At least that’s what columnist Megan McArdle of the Washington Post in a text published Wednesday. It was while trying to put in place precautions to protect himself “personally” from the rapid progress of artificial intelligence that this idea came to him.

Because, faced with the rise of voice cloning and video trickery technologies, more and more fraudsters would try to scam citizens by making them believe that their loved ones are in danger or in serious trouble, according to the American media.

“It occurred to me that [mon mari et moi]being two journalists who provided a panoply of audio and video samples for a machine impersonation, we needed a quick way to say ‘yes honey, that’s really me,’” she says.

And that doesn’t just hold for public figures, she points out, since the Internet holds a lot more data than people realize.

“Almost everyone has a video or audio of themselves somewhere on their social networks or those of another,” adds the English-speaking columnist.

Thus, she considers it important to establish in advance a safeword, or a security password between partners or even within a family cocoon. This will save you from searching for that “detail of your life that you remember but the cloud ignores” the day you answer an emergency call.

Nevertheless, several questions remain unanswered: how to prove that a malicious video, showing you cheating on your spouse or speaking ill of your boss, is not really you, she continues.

“Sorry to say, but I don’t have a good answer for that one other than: now more than ever, it pays to build a reputation as a truly honest and trustworthy person,” she wrote.
