As a solution for resolving specific concerns in rural areas –

The Prime Minister of the transition, Raymond Ndong Sima, kicked off the workshop of the Gabon Emergency Community Development Program (PUDC), aimed at reducing socio-economic development inequalities between areas urban and rural, through specific projects. This program is led by the Ministry of Planning and Foresight, with financial and technical support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

As part of this program, joint teams from the Ministry of Planning and Foresight as well as those of UNDP will simultaneously travel to the nine (9) provinces of the country to collect information, identify needs and priority projects. likely to be financed, in order to ensure the well-being of rural populations.

“For the sustainable development of our communities and the satisfaction of the basic social needs of the communities concerned, we must place particular emphasis on the priorities defined by local populations and execute the projects identified by them”warned the supervisory minister, Alexandre Barro Chambrier who insisted on “the necessary consideration of the grievances of the populations and the simultaneous implementation of projects throughout the national territory”.

The implementation of the PUDC in Gabon, in terms of sustainability of achievements, transparency and accountability, will have to be nourished and enriched by good practices on success models of the kind in Congo, DRC and Senegal.

“This is an opportunity to invest massively in the modernization of infrastructure, socio-economic services and administrative buildings, in order to increase public provision and cover the needs of impacted populations. The PUDC also offers the opportunity to strengthen local governance and empower local authorities”assured Francis James, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

As part of the fight against poverty and improving the living conditions of rural populations, several initiatives have already been developed or deployed in Gabon, with mixed results. These include ART GOLD GABON in 2006, the Integrated and Accelerated Development Program at the Local Level (P-DIAL) in 2017 and the Departmental Initiatives Fund (FID), estimated in 2018 at 48 billion CFA Francs.
