As V. Mital did not participate in the voting, NSGK failed to elect a new chairman

The ruling Union of the Fatherland-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) faction proposes former army commander Arvydas Pocių for this position.

“The opposition did not participate in that meeting at all, because they are waiting for the conclusions of the Special Investigation Service (on the transparency of national defense public procurements – BNS), and the ruling party participated with a new composition, but as I understand it, the new member V. Mitalas did not participate in the voting and there were not enough votes,” BNS said. NSGK member “worker” Andrius Mazuronis.

NSGK has 11 members, five of them are representatives of the opposition.

“One member is missing, we will now wait for the conclusions of the STT and we will re-elect together with the opposition and solve this issue,” conservative A. Pocius told BNS.

According to him, there is no big difference when the new chairman will be confirmed – before or after Easter.

The post of NSGK chairman became vacant after the president appointed the former head of the committee, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, as the Minister of National Defense.

The Freedom Party, which belongs to the ruling coalition, expressed its desire to lead NSGK last week, but the coalition partners did not consider this request. “Liberals” have delegated the vice-chairman of the Seimas, V. Mitala, to this committee.
