Assassin’s Creed: The main story was supposed to end in space

When the franchise was still thought of as a trilogy, Assassin’s Creed’s main story had to end in space.

For some early fans, there was a before and after Assassin’s Creed III. For many, the sequel to the franchise has turned into another series of games that has absolutely nothing to do with the original AC universe. Since the end of the story of Desmond Miles, the series clearly no longer has the same panache. On the other hand, other players are delighted with the shift started by Assassin’s Creed.

Assassin’s Creed was supposed to end on a spaceship

Eurogamer reports that the original plan for the Assassin’s Creed series was to end on a spaceship. The story would have seen the hero of the series, Desmond, soar into space. The details of this idea, originally dreamed up by Patrice Desilets, co-creator ofAssassin’s Creed, were published by Lars de Wildt, a researcher in conspiracy theories, religion and other beliefs in digital media culture at the Belgian research university KU Leuven.

Wildt interviewed various former developers ofAssassin’s Creed in 2019. These searches include the original ending of the franchise: ‘The original plan was pieced together from interviews I had with AC creator Patrice Désilets and AC3 creative director Alex Hutchinson. In short, the third game ended with the conflict being resolved in our time, Desmond Miles taking down Abstergo using the knowledge and skills of all his ancestors, including Altair for AC1 and Ezio for AC2. Also, it’s the end of the world in 2012 and Desmond Miles and Lucy start a new civilization somewhere else, as Adam and Eve.

Patrice Desilets adds that Desmond Miles and Lucy had to leave the earth in a spaceship.

The success of the saga has meant that the franchise has evolved, especially the character of Lucy who was killed off. Abstergo is still the villain of the series and Desmond is no more. Although the spirit of the latter is located in intermediate digital space. He is incidentally joined by Layla – Desmond’s successor as the series’ modern protagonist – at the end ofAssassin’s Creed Valhalla.
