Asst Lariana has completed a €14.5 million investment, installing 23 new high-tech medical devices across Como province to make diagnostic imaging faster, more precise, and less stressful for patients. This significant upgrade, funded by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), has modernized numerous pieces of equipment in the hospitals of Como, Cantù, Mariano Comense, Menaggio, and the facility via Napoleona.
New Equipment Across the Province
The investment has brought a range of advanced technology to the region. At the Sant’Anna hospital in San Fermo della Battaglia, three magnetic resonance scanners are now operational, two of which were purchased with PNRR funds. The hospital has also added new linear accelerators for radiotherapy, a PET/TC scanner, angiographs, and gamma cameras, which are essential for complex oncological diagnostics. The Sant’Antonio Abate hospital in Cantù has also been equipped with a new magnetic resonance scanner and a state-of-the-art CT scanner, the latter donated by the BCC of Cantù. Four new mammographs have been distributed to the facilities in Menaggio, Cantù, San Fermo della Battaglia, and via Napoleona, strengthening early breast cancer diagnosis capabilities.
AI Improves Diagnostic Image Quality
Among the most significant innovations is the use of artificial intelligence, which helps optimize examinations and improve the quality of diagnostic images.
, explains Lorenzo Moramarco, head of the Radiology department at Sant’Anna hospital. The upgrade also includes more welcoming diagnostic environments, with colors and landscape images designed to reduce patient anxiety, especially for children and more vulnerable individuals. Una diagnostica di precisione passa anche da un ambiente di cura accogliente
, Moramarco emphasizes.
A Team Effort
Rosa Muraca, director of the Services Department of Asst Lariana and head of Radiology in Cantù, stated that Aver completato l’installazione di numerose grandi apparecchiature PNRR è motivo di orgoglio. Oggi offriamo ai cittadini tecnologie diagnostiche di primissimo livello, capaci di garantire esami più rapidi, diagnosi sempre più precise e una presa in carico tempestiva
. The project is the result of teamwork involving the Radiology, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, and Health Physics teams, who are also engaged in emergencies and cancer prevention and care pathways.
