Astronomers announced that a huge asteroid the size of the Eiffel Tower, regarding 300 meters in diameter, was close to the planet, yesterday (Wednesday), before traveling at a speed of regarding 39 thousand miles per hour (62.6 thousand km per hour).
According to the Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the asteroid “HV5 2006” approached Earth at a distance of 2.4 million km, which is its closest point to Earth during this century, adding that it will not repeat this until April 2081.
And NASA classified the asteroid, earlier, as dangerous because it is large enough to cause significant damage in the event of a collision, while it belongs to a group of asteroids, whose orbits make them all close to Earth.
It is also one of more than 31,000 NEOs, many of which are believed to be waiting to be discovered in the darkness of space.
